Fragmented Security. Governance and Drug Trafficking in the Export of Organic Bananas
Keywords:
Security, governance, drug trafficking, organic banana, export chain.Synopsis
This work examines the organic banana export chain in the Piura region in the face of the threat posed by international drug trafficking. Throughout its pages, it shows how companies have strengthened their internal controls, but also how these measures prove insufficient when security depends on coordination among multiple actors. The book proposes a critical reading of governance, understood as a web of relationships, information, and trust that transcends the boundaries of any single organization. The work invites a rethinking of security as a fragmented public good, whose production requires sustained cooperation among exporters, logistics operators, authorities, and communities. Only through collaborative arrangements will it be possible to protect cargo integrity and preserve the success of Piuran organic banana in international markets.
