Retrospective of earthen architecture in Xochimilco as an alternative for current housing
Synopsis
The territory of Xochimilco has been characterized, historically, for being located in a lacustrine terrain that in pre-Hispanic times and in the viceregal period had an ample production of vegetables. However, with the drying up of the lake and the gradual disappearance of the canals, this chinampero system was transformed; and, in the 20th century, there was a great urban growth that transformed living conditions. But it had, above all, an impact on the construction of traditional houses that were displaced with the construction of industrialized materials that have been highly polluting and have left in disuse the constructive traditions characteristic of the region. Currently, there are very few existing vestiges that make evident this type of housing that was a fundamental part of the population; therefore, it is proposed that traditional techniques be encouraged in the current housing to counteract the contamination generated.
